Report: Patriots Held Workout With Linebacker Prospect Denzel Perryman

The New England Patriots continue to make it obvious they want to add another top linebacker this offseason.

The Patriots held a private workout with Miami linebacker Denzel Perryman, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday. Perryman is projected as a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft by The Sports Xchange.

The 5-foot-11, 236-pound linebacker ran a 4.78-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 32-inch vertical leap and 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump. He recorded 110 tackles with two sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss in 2014. He also had an interception, five passes defended and three forced fumbles.

The Patriots have shown interest in TCU linebacker Paul Dawson, Washington’s Shaq Thompson and Kansas’ Ben Heeney. Patriots starters Dont’a Hightower and Jerod Mayo are coming off injuries, which could explain New England’s interest in a linebacker. Mayo is due a $10.2875 million cap hit in 2015 and he’s played just 12 games over the past two seasons.
