Report: Rajon Rondo Not Expected To Attract Any Max Contract Offers

Even before Rajon Rondo was shipped out of Boston in December, it was expected that he’d pursue a maximum contract somewhere when he hits NBA free agency at this season’s end.

Now, it seems unlikely the former Celtic will find what he’s looking for.

While Rondo said just last month that he’d be open to re-signing with the Dallas Mavericks, that scenario becomes more unlikely by the day. The point guard was benched Tuesday during Game 2 of Dallas’ first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets, and Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday that Rondo only will stay with the Mavs if coach Rick Carlisle is ousted.

So, that means the Los Angeles Lakers probably are Rondo’s best shot at a max contract, right?

Wrong.

Rondo’s worsening attitude in Dallas, combined with the fact that his play has declined since he tore his ACL midway through the 2012-13, has all but ruined his chances at a big payday next season, Wojnarowski reported. Apparently, “there are no max contract offers for Rondo on the market.”

Rondo could be a pain in Boston, but it’s clear Dallas is a terrible fit. However, Rondo certainly isn’t helping the situation, and if he can’t find somewhere suitable next season, the 29-year-old easily could ruin his chances at cashing in.
