By the old gods and the new, Vadim Finkelchtein will bring medieval MMA fighting to life.

Finkelchtein, president of Russian MMA company M-1 Global, has decided to bring a “Game of Thrones”-esque feel to a new, unique style of MMA.

The pitch, called M-1 Medieval, would bring a new spin to regular MMA fights. The idea started as an entertainment promotion between fights in which people dressed as medieval knights and fought each other in special gear, which includes dulled broadswords and shields.

“I liked the fans’ reaction when we did it for the first time in St. Petersburg at M-1 Challenge 50,” Finkelchtein told MMAFighting.com.

“They seemed to really like it. They were impressed and supported the knights. So, I thought it was worth continuing. At that time, the knight fight was to fill the pause between the undercard and main card fights. If we find enough fighters to make enough fights, we will have a separate medieval show with its own weight categories, title fights and champions.”

M-1 Medieval is currently expanding across Europe. We can only hope it reaches America.

Godspeed, Finkelchtein.
