Charlie Adam’s left leg remains as powerful as ever.

Adam scored a stunning goal for Stoke City in its 2-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. Adam shot past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from his own half, accurately driving the ball an estimated 65 yards into the goal. Adam’s strike is a leading contender for the “Goal of the Season” prize.

Stoke City was trailing 1-0 in the 44th minute when Adam spotted Courtois off his line and tried his luck. Courtois scrambled in vain, as the ball sailed over his out-stretched arm.

Loic Remy put Chelsea in front for good with a 62nd-minute goal. Chelsea extended its lead atop the Premier League standings to seven points, but Adam’s strike is dominating the headlines.

The goal was Adam’s second of the season and the 50th of his career in English soccer’s top four divisions. However, it wasn’t the first time Adam has scored from his own half.

Adam’s goal shows the benefits of trying the unexpected, but it helps when you have a track record when it comes to long-shots like these.
