BOSTON — Alex Rodriguez didn’t start in Friday night’s game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees at Fenway Park. He didn’t need to.

Rodriguez, who pinch-hit for Garrett Jones in the eighth inning, hit his 660th career home run, tying the Yankees slugger with Willie Mays for fourth place on Major League Baseball’s all-time home run list.

A-Rod’s milestone homer came against Red Sox reliever Junichi Tazawa. It was a line drive into the Monster seats on a 3-0 fastball and broke a 2-2 tie in an eventual Yankees win.

Rodriguez’s teammates gave him a standing ovation on the top step of the visitors’ dugout at Fenway Park. The Fenway Faithful, on the other hand, showered A-Rod with boos, just as they did prior to him hitting the historic home run.

Rodriguez now trails just Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755) and Babe Ruth (714) on MLB’s illustrious home run list.
