The Cleveland Cavaliers are in hot water after a team commercial has irked many who say it spoofs or makes light of domestic violence.

The Cavs hosted the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night, and prior to the game, the team aired a video in the arena that’s upset many. In the video, which is a spoof of a United Healthcare commercial, a man and his wife or girlfriend are singing to each other. That is, of course, until the man — a Cavs fan — finds out his lady friend is a Bulls fan.

That’s when he apparently throws her across the room. The video then cuts to the two of them on the couch — the woman with an ice pack on her head — watching the game, only now she’s a Cavs fan. The video has some up in arms, saying the video implies the man beat the woman into being a Cavaliers fan.

And here’s the United Healthcare video it appears to be modeled after.

Given the continued education and obvious condemnation surrounding domestic violence across sports and in society in general, this probably wasn’t the best idea.
