The Boston Celtics certainly will be active on the free agent market this offseason, but what are the chances they can actually land a high-profile player?
If you’re to believe CSNNE’s A. Sherrod Blakely, then the chances are pretty good.
In the latest episode of “Celtics Talk TV,” Blakely, along with the network’s Kyle Draper and Jimmy Toscano, discussed the probability of various free agents landing with the C’s. And Blakely believes Boston has a “35 to 40 percent” chance of signing Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge this summer.
“He’s going to look for a situation that is going to give him the best shot of going deep into the playoffs,” Blakely said. “My understanding is that the Celtics are going to be open to putting together some type of package deal where they would not only bring in LaMarcus Aldridge, but they’d also bring in one of his good friends by the name of Wes Matthews.”
Neither Draper nor Toscano agreed that the Celtics had a shot at Aldridge, but their take on Matthews was much more positive. Blakely believes Boston has a 60 to 65 percent chance at signing the Blazers guard, while Toscano thinks it’s nearly a sure bet that Matthews winds up wearing green, giving it a 75 percent chance.
Regardless of whether the C’s can land Aldridge, it’s safe to say he’ll be on their radar. Aldridge averaged 23.4 points and 10.5 rebounds in 35.4 minutes per game during the 2014-15 season.
