One small letter can make a big difference.

The announcement Tuesday that Isiah Thomas had been hired as president of the WNBA’s New York Liberty was met with anger and/or ridicule from around the basketball world, with most pointing to the Hall of Famer’s past allegations of sexual harassment or his miserable tenure as general manager of the New York Knicks — who, like the Liberty, are owned by James Dolan.

Twitter user @Coversbeast, however, was ticked off for a different reason.

Isiah Thomas, of course, does not still play in the NBA. He’s been retired for two decades. (Also, he doesn’t actually own the Liberty, but that’s beside the point.)

Isaiah Thomas is an active NBA player, though, and the Boston Celtics point guard decided to have some fun with Mr. Beast’s accusations.

Thomas’ response drew a collective chuckle from the Twittersphere, but one guy wasn’t laughing.
