Cristiano Ronaldo needed three goals in Saturday’s game in order to surpass his career high of 60 goals in season. That would be a heavy task for many, but not for the Real Madrid superstar.

Before halftime of the season finale against Getafe ended, Ronaldo netted a hat trick, bringing his goal tally this year to 61, with 48 of those coming in La Liga (Spanish first divisino) games. His first-half performance paved the road toward a decisive 7-3 victory for Real Madrid, with 16-year old Norwegian prodigy Martin Odegaard replacing Ronaldo in the 58th minute.

While Ronaldo finished two goals shy of Lionel Messi’s record 50 goals in a single La Liga season (set in 2012), his 48 goals this season bested Messi by five.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, next season fans will see Ronaldo become Real Madrid’s all-time leading goal scorer, as he now sits just ten goals behind Raul for the top spot.
