We’ve seen plenty of football players try their hand at baseball, with varying results. But it takes a mean dude to go from the diamond to the gridiron.
Then again, Kyle Farnsworth is a pretty mean dude.
Farnsworth carved out a 16-year major league career as a flame-throwing relief pitcher, playing for nine teams — including the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays — before becoming a free agent in 2014. Now, at 39 years old, the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder apparently is switching gears.
Farnsworth currently is playing as a defensive end for the Orlando Phantoms of the Florida Football Alliance, a minor league consisting of 16 teams. Let us rephrase that: He’s not just playing, he’s dominating.
Not only does Farnsworth lead the team in tackles and sacks, he also is second on the Phantoms with seven tackles for loss and has deflected a pass and forced a fumble, which he recovered.
His team isn’t too shabby either, as Orlando has rattled off five straight wins and will play in the league’s divisional playoffs this weekend.
