It’s no secret James Taylor is a Boston Red Sox fan. In fact, the organization has served as an inspiration for the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter.

Taylor debuted a new song called “Angels of Fenway” on Sunday at Fenway Park. The song, which he first conceived after the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series, notes the franchise’s historic rivalry with the New York Yankees and stems in large from his own connection to Boston’s baseball team.

“In 2004, that miracle season, that incredible thing that happened and what it meant to Red Sox fans and to the city of Boston, to all of New England,” Taylor said. “The release that it represented, the long, hard years waiting to get back on top. It moved me deeply and I knew I wanted to write about it.”

Taylor was born in Boston and now lives in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. He is enshrined in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has sold over 100 million albums throughout his musical career.

Taylor’s fame has done little to cloud his local upbringing, though. He’s a Red Sox fan through and through, and he’ll even perform a concert Aug. 6 at Fenway Park alongside special guest Bonnie Raitt.
