FOXBORO, Mass. — If Jimmy Garoppolo can learn to avoid defenders like he can sidestep a tough question, the young quarterback might never be sacked.

Garoppolo shared reps with starter Tom Brady at New England Patriots organized team activities Friday, mostly working with what appeared to be the second team. Garoppolo avoided directly answering any questions about Brady’s pending four-game suspension and the possibility that he’ll be the Patriots’ starter to begin the 2015 NFL season.

“I’m just going out to practice every day, trying to improve, trying to get my teammates better, me better, and we’ll go from there,” Garoppolo said. “I just have the mindset that I’m trying to get better. That’s all you can control at the end of the day.”

Garoppolo was impressive during the first OTA session open to the media, which is a major improvement over how he looked last spring. Garoppolo struggled to start his NFL career then improved during training camp and the preseason.

“Obviously a year will do that to anyone,” Garoppolo said. “Being with the same people, same atmosphere and all of that, you get more used to it.”
