The Boston Red Sox’s pitching staff could use some help, and Carl Willis could be just the man to provide it.
Willis, who has spent this season as the pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians’ Triple-A affiliate, confirmed Friday night that he’d be assuming duties as Boston’s pitching coach. The Red Sox have yet to make an announcement regarding Willis, but manager John Farrell had nothing but positive things to say about the potential hire before Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
“He’s someone who I’ve had working experience in the past for a number of years while in Cleveland,” Farrell told reporters. “Someone who’s got, I think, all the attributes that we’re looking for in the position, someone who’s had a lot of success at the major league level with a couple of Cy Young Award winners under him.”
