Justin Masterson To Hit DL: ‘I’m Not Real Happy, But I Don’t Have To Be’ (Video)

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters Wednesday that starter Justin Masterson will head to the disabled list with arm fatigue, but the pitcher isn’t exactly thrilled.

Masterson lasted just 2 1/3 innings against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, allowing six runs on six hits. The right-hander doesn’t want to sit out, but he begrudgingly accepted his coach’s news and acknowledged that things haven’t gone too well in his last few outings.

“I’m not real happy, but I don’t have to be,” Masterson said on “Red Sox First Pitch” ahead of Wednesday’s game against the A’s. “That’s what they think is right, and you can’t deny the fact that last night, couple outings, we just didn’t make the adjustment to get better.

“And so at this point, being able to take some time to work on things, for me personally, but also in a team sense it allows whoever it may be to come in, make a few starts and really power the team because the team’s moving up.”
