Kolo Toure Re-Signs With Liverpool On One-Year Contract Extension

Kolo Toure will be available to help right Liverpool’s ship next season.

Toure signed a new contract with Liverpool on Tuesday, the club announced on its website.

Toure will take his Anfield career into a third season, having signed a one-year extension, according to The Telegraph and the BBC.

Toure, 34, joined Liverpool in 2013 on a free transfer. The veteran defender has played just 45 games for Liverpool but he was instrumental in stabilizing Liverpool’s defense in 2014-15, helping lead its mid-season revival.

Toure would have become a free agent next month, but he rejected the chance to join one of a number of European clubs in order to continue representing a club he admires and living in a city in which his family is comfortable.

“Liverpool is a great club for me to stay at,” Toure said Sunday, according to the Liverpool Echo. “Liverpool is going to be massive. I love Premier League football and I played all my years here. And if I can finish here it would be great.

“My kids go to school here and they are half-English, and that is important as well.”

Toure, a native of Ivory Coast, ended his international career in January. He will devote his energy toward preventing goals and mentoring Liverpool’s young players next season.
