John Carver Accuses Newcastle’s Mike Williamson Of Intentional Red Card (Video)

Newcastle United is a broken team, and manager John Carver said publicly what some only would dare think but not say.

Carver hinted defender Mike Williamson intentionally earned a red card Saturday in his team’s 3-0 loss to Leicester City. Carver told the BBC in his postgame interview Williamson might have picked up his second yellow card on purpose in order to sit out two of the remaining three games of a Newcastle season, which grows increasingly miserable by the hour.

Williamson was sent off in the 62nd minute after he tackled midfielder Jamie Vardy on the sideline. He had picked up his first yellow card just seven minutes prior. Williamson’s dismissal reduced the visitors to 10 players, effectively killing their chances of overturning a three-goal deficit.

Newcastle now has lost eight consecutive Premier League games — the longest skid in the club’s 123-year history.

Carver’s astonishing accusation (or revelation) is a new low for Newcastle. The Magpies have won two of the 16 games they’ve played since Carver replaced Alan Pardew as manager in December.

Newcastle is unlikely to fall through the trap door of relegation under Carver’s leadership, and it’s a forgone conclusion that the under-fire, interim manager won’t be in charge of the Magpies next season.

Nevertheless, Carver seems like he finally has lost patience with his players’ efforts. Newcastle’s fans were months ahead of him in that regard.
