SAN FRANCISCO — The New England Patriots will accept the NFL’s discipline over Deflategate, but that won’t affect Tom Brady’s appeal.
Brady was suspended four games by the NFL, and the Patriots quarterback filed his appeal Thursday. The appeal will be heard by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
“The Patriots may not appeal, but this will not impact the NFLPA appeal of the 4 game suspension of Tom Brady,” NFL Players Association assistant executive director of external affairs George Atallah tweeted Tuesday.
Since the Patriots chose not to appeal their punishment — the loss of a first-round draft pick in 2016, a fourth-rounder in 2017 and a $1 million fine — some have surmised the NFL could go easy on Brady.
Goodell will speak to the media at the NFL Spring Meeting on Wednesday, which could give some clarity as to when the league will hear Brady’s appeal.
