Maybe the Boston Red Sox should have called up Humberto Quintero to fill their catching void.
Sure, Blake Swihart might do just fine in his new duds. But Quintero, a 35-year-old veteran, clearly takes no prisoners when it comes to gunning down baserunners.
Quintero, who signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox over the offseason to provide organizational depth, instead provided this gem Friday while playing for Triple-A Pawtucket.
The PawSox backstop absolutely unloaded a throw into the stomach of Luke Maile as the Durham Bulls catcher stood in the batter’s box on a stolen-base attempt. One can debate whether it was intentional, but one can’t debate whether it was painful.
Maile’s reaction definitely answers the latter question.
