Talk about the best Mother’s Day ever.

During the fourth inning of Sunday’s New York Mets-Philadelphia Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, Mets infielder Daniel Murphy fouled a ball into the stands behind home plate and gave us a new hero in the form of this Phillies fan father.

As it turned out, that dad’s barehanded catch actually made for the perfect day. Comcast SportsNet’s Gregg Murphy caught up with the fan, Mike Capko, during the game, and he said he and his wife Alyssa brought their seven-month-old son Kolton to the park for his first game on their first Mother’s Day together.

It also was the first foul ball Capko ever caught.

And even though Capko said he’s not much of a baseball player, the family happened to be sitting in front of the owner’s box, and general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. noticed.

“I was going to go down there and sign him,” Amaro told The Associated Press. “I almost did.”
