Carlo Ancelotti leaves Real Madrid with the enduring respect of some of the soccer world’s brightest stars.

Sergio Ramos, James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos and other Real Madrid players paid tribute to Ancelotti on social media after he was fired from his job as head coach Monday. Ramos and his teammates joined Cristiano Ronaldo, who publicly hailed Ancelotti two days before Real Madrid announced the decision to part ways with the Italian tactician.

Great coach and amazing person. Hope we work together next season.

Ancelotti led Real Madrid to titles in the UEFA Champions League, Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup), UEFA Supercup and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2014, but club president Florentino Perez decided not to grant Ronaldo’s wish after a trophy-less finish to the 2014-15 season.

Marcelo, Kroos and Ramos continued the tributes to Ancelotti after Real Madrid officially fired him.

A high demand exists for Ancelotti’s services, but he will take a break from coaching this summer in order to undergo back surgery.

Regardless of where Ancelotti next emerges, Real Madrid likely will remember his tenure fondly.
