Ryan Hanigan officially is out for the foreseeable future.

The Boston Red Sox announced Sunday that they moved the catcher from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL after he underwent successful surgery on his fractured right hand the day before. Hanigan isn’t expected to return until after the All-Star break.

Boston filled Hanigan’s spot on the 40-man roster by claiming infielder Luiz Jimenez off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. Jimenez was designated for assignment by the club Saturday.

Jimenez appeared in 15 games for the Brewers this season, going 1-for-15 with a run scored and a walk. The 27-year-old right-hander mostly plays third base but has some major league experience at first, second and shortstop. Jimenez has a .218 average in 67 games over the past three seasons with Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Angels.
