The Boston Red Sox have traded reliever Edward Mujica to the Oakland Athletics for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team confirmed Sunday.

Boston designated Mujica for assignment Thursday.

The 30-year-old signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Red Sox before the 2014 season, but the right-hander has posted a 4.61 ERA in 11 appearances spanning 13 2/3 innings this season. He owns a 4.03 ERA in 75 appearances since joining Boston.

Despite the trade, the Sox could be seeing Mujica again very soon. Boston travels to Oakland next week and opens a three-game set with the A’s on Monday night.
