Report: Jeff Green Expected To Opt In, Return To Grizzlies Next Season

Year 1 of the Jeff Green era in Memphis was a flop. Yet it appears the Grizzlies forward is sticking around for Year 2.

Green is expected to exercise his $9.2 million player option this summer and return to the Grizzlies next season, ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reported Monday.

That Green wouldn’t want to test the free-agent market at the moment is no surprise. He did little to boost his value after the Boston Celtics traded him to Memphis in January, averaging 13.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 42 games following the move and failing to score more than 12 points in any of the Grizzlies’ 11 playoff games.

Nothing is finalized, however, and the 28-year-old very well could end up elsewhere if an attractive offer presents itself.

“Don’t forget that Green is represented by the uber-aggressive David Falk,” Stein wrote. “Rest assured, then, that Falk will have a strong handle on the sort of market that awaits Green come July 1, if he doesn’t already.

“Is there a team in circulation that would pay Green — one of the league’s perennial teases — in the neighborhood he and Falk seek? Bet on Falk to find it if there is.”
