Reports: Zane McIntyre Plans To Leave North Dakota, Sign With Bruins

The Boston Bruins could be adding another quality goaltender to their organization.

North Dakota goalie Zane McIntyre, whom the Bruins selected in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Draft, reportedly plans to sign with Boston and not return to school for his senior season.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman first reported the story Tuesday, and McIntyre’s advisor confirmed to Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald on Tuesday that the 2015 Mike Richter Award winner and Hobey Baker Award finalist will be leaving North Dakota.

McIntyre went 29-10-3 with a .929 save percentage and a 2.05 goals against average for North Dakota last season. The 22-year-old junior led North Dakota to the Frozen Four at TD Garden, where it lost to Boston University.

McIntyre, if signed, likely would play with the Providence Bruins for the 2015-16 season. Top prospect Malcolm Subban and Jeremy Smith shared the No. 1 job last season, but it’s possible one of them could move up to the NHL and back up Tuukka Rask because Niklas Svedberg, the backup goalie in 2014-15, reportedly signed with a KHL team.
