Liverpool was trailing 5-0 in the 70th minute when Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert flicked the ball into the space behind the Stoke City defense, and Gerrard ran onto it. Gerrard then controlled the ball with his first touch and shot past goalkeeper Asmir Begovic with his second.

Visiting Liverpool fans celebrated Gerrard’s goal, and Stoke City fans joined them, according to Tony Barrett of the Times of London.

The goal was Gerrard’s ninth of the 2014-15 Premier League season, confirming his place as Liverpool’s top goal scorer this term. The strike also was the 120th of his career in England’s top flight.

Gerrard will depart for the Los Angeles Galaxy this summer holding a lofty position in the ranks of Liverpool’s all-team leading goal scorers.
