Tedy Bruschi: ‘Tom Brady Would Not Tell Anyone To Do Anything Illegal’

Tom Brady has become the central figure in DeflateGate after the Wells Report concluded it was “more probable than not” that the New England Patriots quarterback knew about deflated footballs in January’s AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts.

ESPN has used former NFL players and executives — many of whom have had playoff runs ended by Brady and the Patriots — to discuss this topic and the QB’s potential punishment. On Friday, it was former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi’s turn to offer his thoughts during SportsCenter.

That isn’t a surprising answer from Bruschi, who wasn’t expected to throw his former teammate under the bus. That said, it comes from a man who actually knows Brady well enough to make credible comments about his integrity, unlike many other NFL analysts at ESPN.

However, Damien Woody, a former teammate of Brady’s and also an ESPN analyst, believes Brady cheated.

“From the texts of Jim McNally, him labeling himself ‘the Deflator,’ tells me that this wasn’t the only time,” Woody said, per Pro Football Talk. “When you’ve given yourself a label, to me that insinuates that this action has happened multiple times. I’m looking at it as this has happened multiple times, not only this particular situation, but it’s happened in the past before.”
