Tom Brady Sr. Livid About Wells Report: 'This Was Framegate' On My Son

Tom Brady Sr. isn’t a big fan of what the Wells Report has to say about his son.

The New England Patriots quarterback’s father spoke with USA TODAY Sports and didn’t hold back his feelings toward Ted Wells’ report, which dropped Wednesday and claimed Tom Brady “was at least generally aware” of activities that led to illegally deflated footballs during the AFC Championship Game.

“I don’t have any doubt about my son’s integrity — not one bit,” Brady Sr. told USA TODAY Sports. “In this country, you’re innocent until proven guilty. It just seems Tommy is now guilty until proven innocent.

“This thing is so convoluted. … They say that possibly — possibly — he was aware of this. The reality is if you can’t prove he did it, then he’s innocent, and lay off him. That’s the bottom line.

Brady Sr. seemed to have a problem with the overall vagueness of the report.

“How can Tommy defend himself? It’s impossible,” he said. “This is so distorted. To have something come out like this and say it’s more probable than not? What does that mean?

“They’re saying he’s possibly aware. … How do you put a cloud over somebody like this?”

Brady Sr. expanded, telling USA TODAY that he believes the NFL cares more about its own image than that of his son’s. Essentially, he believes the league needed a fall guy — and that guy is Tom Brady.

“The league had to cover themselves,” he said. “The reality is they had no conclusive evidence. This was Framegate right from the beginning.

“They had to protect their asses, and that’s what they’re doing.”
