Vikings’ Mike Wallace Says He’s Fastest Player In NFL ‘Without A Doubt’

Apparently, Mike Wallace’s mouth moves as fast as his legs.

The 28-year-old wide receiver was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Minnesota Vikings this offseason after a rather messy ending in Miami. Wallace wasted little time adjusting to his new environs, offering a bold claim backed up by a challenge earlier this week.

“Without a doubt, I’m the fastest player in the NFL,” Wallace told the Pioneer Press. “If somebody feels foggy about that, we can (race). I’m never going to back down from competition.”

Well, there you have it.

In terms of sheer speed, Wallace has a good case, as All-Pro cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Patrick Peterson both have said he’s the fastest receiver in the NFL. A Sports Illustrated NFL player poll pegged him as the league’s third-fastest player in 2011, behind wide receiver DeSean Jackson and running back Chris Johnson, who currently is out of the league.

“I’ve run a lot of routes and I’ve got a lot of miles on my legs, but I still feel that there’s nobody (in the NFL) who can run with me,” Wallace added. “I might have slowed down a little but I could still run 4.25 (40-yard dash).”

It’s a shame Wallace didn’t enter the league two years earlier, as the NFL actually held a “Fastest Man” competition at the 2007 Pro Bowl. For now, though, it looks like he’s stuck trying to get people to race him in the parking lot.
