In a somewhat surprising move, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced he would accept the punishment given to his team by the NFL for its role in Deflategate.

He made the announcement Tuesday at the owners’ meetings in San Francisco.

The league fined the Patriots $1 million in addition to taking away a 2016 first-round pick and a 2017 fourth-round pick based on the Wells Report findings. Patriots fans weren’t particularly pleased with Kraft’s decision, which wasn’t very surprising.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady also is facing a four-game suspension for his alleged role in Deflategate.

It will be interesting to see if Kraft’s announcement Tuesday impacts Brady’s appeal in any way. The NFLPA has requested NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recuse himself from the appeal.
