Courtney Hawkins can brag about this one for a while.
On Sunday, the Chicago White Sox’s No. 9 prospect launched his fifth blast of the season during Double-A Birmingham’s 10-4 win over Montgomery, and it probably was more impressive than any homer he’ll ever hit in his career.
Hawkins’ two-run shot hit the top of an eastbound-moving train that was chugging along past the left-field fence at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.
“You can actually hear it,” Hawkins said of the train, per MiLB.com. “People let me know real quick. I wasn’t actually trying to hit it, but when it left the bat, you can hear everybody say, ‘Hit the train! hit the train!’ It was pretty cool. It was one of those feelings, you know when you make hard contact. The last time I hit anything was maybe (at Mary Carroll) High School at Cabaniss Field (in Corpus Christi, Texas).”
That’s cool, and you know it.
