Yoan Moncada Hits First Homer In Red Sox System For Greenville (Video)

Yoan Moncada’s major league debut can’t come soon enough.

Moncada launched his first professional home run Saturday on a night when the Boston Red Sox played arguably their worst game of the season against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park. The 19-year-old infielder went deep for Single-A Greenville in the Drive’s 11-4 win over the Lexington Legends.

Moncada, a switch-hitter, homered in the sixth inning off left-hander Foster Griffin, who was a 2014 first-round pick of the Kansas City Royals. Moncada, of course, is considered the Red Sox’s top prospect after signing a contract in spring training that included a $31.5 million signing bonus

The Cuban phenom probably won’t reach the bigs for a couple of years, but he’s already off to a solid start in the Red Sox system. Boston certainly has visions of him being a difference-maker down the road.
