The Boston Bruins announced Tuesday they have agreed to a two-year entry-level contract with goaltender Zane McIntyre, who played three seasons at the University of North Dakota.
McIntyre, a sixth-round pick by the Bruins in the 2010 NHL Draft, was college hockey’s best goaltender this past season and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. McIntyre went 29-10-3 with a .929 save percentage and 2.05 goals against average for North Dakota in the 2014-15 season, which ended with a Frozen Four loss to Boston University.
The next stop for McIntyre likely will be the AHL. He probably will compete for ice time with the Providence Bruins, although it’s possible he could battle Malcolm Subban and/or Jeremy Smith for the backup goalie job in Boston.
Either way, bringing McIntyre into the fold gives the Bruins tremendous depth and skill at the sport’s most important position.
