The Boston Red Sox might not have an ace by definition, but Clay Buchholz certainly is pitching like one.

Buchholz put together arguably his best outing of the season Tuesday night, allowing just three hits over eight scoreless innings while striking out eight and walking two in Boston’s 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. That gem earned him Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

With their offense struggling, the Sox needed all they help they could get from Buchholz, and the right-hander delivered. He needed just 92 pitches to get through eight innings, and Koji Uehara closed the door in the ninth inning to give Buchholz his third win of the season.

The 30-year-old has allowed just five runs in his last four starts and has dropped his ERA nearly two full points — from 5.73 to 3.82 — since May 10.
