The Boston Red Sox are desperate for wins and that’s exactly what Clay Buchholz gave them Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.

Buchholz gave up two runs (zero earned), six hits, with one walk and three strikeouts in seven innings. Not only did Buchholz pitch well, he also went deep into the game and lessened the workload on Boston’s bullpen.

The performance earned the 30-year-old right hander Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

Inconsistency has been a bit of an issue for Buchholz this season, but he’s improved of late, going seven innings or more with two or fewer earned runs in five of his last seven starts.
