When you do something good in sports, you should celebrate. It’s not easy to win games of any sport at that level, and celebrations are often more than justified.

However, teams sometimes do get a little carried away. They do this in a variety of ways, but one of the most embarrassing, as we were reminded Wednesday, is by hanging banners in their arena or stadium.

The Indianapolis Colts became the subject of Internet ridicule Wednesday when a photo of their new banner at Lucas Oil Stadium started circulating. The banner proudly proclaims the Colts were a “2014 AFC Finalist,” as Indy did indeed reach the AFC Championship Game. Sure, they were run off the field by the New England Patriots in a 38-point rout, but apparently the Colts will sacrifice being reminded of that game to trumpet the fact they were one of the NFL’s final four.

Oh, and that’s not the first time the Colts have hung a banner like that, either.

Sadly, the Colts are far from alone when it comes to embarrassing banners. In fact, they’ve got plenty of company — including the Patriots — when it comes to this kind of thing.
