Dansby Swanson might have just had the best Monday ever.

The Vanderbilt shortstop saw his life change forever Monday night, all within a matter of minutes, and his journey is a long way from being over.

The celebration began when Swanson and the Commodores were able to finish off the University of Illinois in an NCAA tournament super regional series. With the win and a sweep of the Illini, Vandy is heading back to the College World Series where the Commodores will be looking for back-to-back national titles.

Just minutes after Swanson and Vandy finished off Illinois, it was time for the Major League Baseball draft to begin. Swanson was the consensus pick of many to go No. 1 overall, which is exactly what happened when the Arizona Diamondbacks selected him first mere moments after Vanderbilt won. In fact, Vandy was still on the field and the celebration continued as they learned Swanson was taken with the first pick.

The celebration didn’t end there, either. Shortly thereafter, pitcher Carson Fulmer was taken by the Chicago White Sox with the No. 8 pick, and the Los Angeles Dodgers took pitcher Walker Buehler with the 24th overall selection in the first round.
