Jessie Vargas was just 10 seconds away from winning the interim WBO welterweight title, but instead, he watched Timothy Bradley lift the hardware.

While Bradley seemed to have the advantage through most of the fight, Vargas came on strong in the final minutes of the 12th round. The 26-year-old left Bradley dazed with a few good shots with 10 seconds to go, and referee Pat Russell stopped the fight and called a knockout.

Or so it seemed.

The crowd (and Vargas) celebrated the victory, but they quickly found out that Russell called the fight not because Vargas put Bradley in a stupor, but because he thought the warning was the final bell. Officials looked to the scorecards for the decision, and they unanimously favored Bradley.

Vargas asked for a rematch, per Deadspin, to which Bradley said he should “talk to my people.”
