The Boston Bruins, by trading defenseman Dougie Hamilton and left winger Milan Lucic in separate deals Friday, were able to acquire three first-round picks in the 2015 NHL Draft.
These moves gave the B’s plenty of assets to make a move up in the first round, and general manager Don Sweeney admitted Friday that he tried to make a trade.

The Bruins ended up keeping their first-rounders and took defenseman Jakub Zboril at No. 13, left winger Jake DeBrusk at No. 14 and right winger Zachary Senyshyn at No. 15.
There was speculation that Boston could try to move up to No. 3, where the Original Six club could have drafted Boston College defenseman Noah Hanifin. But the Arizona Coyotes decided to keep that pick and selected Erie Otters center Dylan Strome.

The Bruins have three picks in the second round, two of which (Nos. 45 and 52) were acquired in the Hamilton trade with the Flames. So, Sweeney has a few assets to use if he wants to move up Round 2.
