BOSTON — The Red Sox’s luck — or lack thereof — was summarized in one play Wednesday.

Hanley Ramirez was struck by a line drive off the bat of Xander Bogaerts in the fifth inning of Boston’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. The batted ball appeared to hit Ramirez in the hand/wrist area, forcing him from the game before the start of the sixth inning.

Ramirez suffered a left hand contusion, according to the Red Sox.

Ramirez, of course, was called out by virtue of being struck by the batted ball. Bogaerts was wiped off the bases moments later when Pablo Sandoval grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Brock Holt shifted from first base to left field with Ramirez exiting the contest. Mike Napoli, who struck out four times in the teams’ series opener Tuesday, entered the game at first base.
