Boston Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez was forced to leave Tuesday’s matchup with the Baltimore Orioles in the third inning after fouling a Miguel Gonzalez pitch off his left knee.
Ramirez went down in a heap and appeared to be in serious pain. He ultimately completed the at-bat, working a 10-pitch walk, but was replaced on the basepaths by Rusney Castillo.
Castillo took over in right field in the bottom of the third, with Brock Holt shifting over to left.
The Red Sox announced Ramirez’s injury as a left knee contusion, per reporters in Baltimore.
