Johnny Manziel: ‘The Money Sign Will Not Be Back’; I Was A Distraction

It looks as though 2015 will be all about Johnny Football and less about Money Manziel.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel announced Wednesday that his signature money sign celebration, which he brought to the NFL from Texas A&M, is going into early retirement.

“The money sign will not be back,” Manziel told reporters, per NFL.com. “I was a little bit of a distraction. I feel bad about that today. I feel bad about that throughout the last months of my life, really thinking back and seeing how much of my life outside of this field and outside of this locker room is documented.”

Manziel suited up for the Browns in just five games last season, but that didn’t stop him from making plenty of negative headlines. Usually, it was the 22-year-old’s partying and unreliability that got him attention before his play on the field.

But Manziel went to rehab in April in an attempt to clean up his act, and if his comments Wednesday are any indication, he seems to have done some growing up.

“It’s not fair for (Browns cornerback) Joe Haden to be having to answer questions about me every day,” Manziel said. “It’s not fair for (offensive tackle) Joe Thomas and all these guys to just continue to have questions asked about me. I don’t think that’s fair at all, and I don’t want that on them.”
