LaMarcus Aldridge Spotted In Boston; Reason For Visit Unclear (Photo)

Before we get all stir crazy with NBA free agency just a few weeks away, let’s be clear: We can’t chalk this up to anything more than a photo of a guy who looks like an NBA player in an airport.

That said, a man named Ben Ewing posted the following photo on CSNNE Celtics insider A. Sherrod Blakely’s Facebook wall Friday.

NBA junkies will recognize the tall person in the white T-shirt and black pants as a dead-to-rights lookalike of Portland Trail Blazers perennial All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge.

The poster claims the photo was taken at Boston’s Logan International Airport, which we can’t actually prove. It certainly looks like Aldridge and that’s definitely an airport, but that’s as far as we realistically can go with this.

Let’s say for a moment this is legitimate. Aldridge visiting Boston with his impending free agency has Celtics fans drooling, but that doesn’t mean the 29-year-old is joining the team. After all, Kevin Love visited Fenway Park last summer and ultimately never joined the Celtics.

Love, of course, was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, whereas Aldridge can sign anywhere as a free agent this summer. The situations are a bit different, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Aldridge came to check out the city.

The Celtics have never signed a top-flight free agent in the prime of his career, but the apparent visit carries more weight given Blakely’s report last month that Boston would target Aldridge and sharp-shooting teammate Wesley Matthews together.

The Aldridge-to-Boston rumors don’t have quite the fervor the Love-to-Boston rumors last summer did, but it’s surprising more photos didn’t surface if Aldridge actually visited. Still, it’s enough to keep Celtics fans on the edge of their seats until July 1.
