NHL, Players Association Announce $71.4M Salary Cap For 2015-16 Season

After months of rumors, speculation and projections, we finally have official salary cap ceiling and floor figures for the 2015-16 NHL season.

The NHL and the NHL Players Association announced Tuesday that the upper limit is $71.4 million and the floor is $52.8 million. This is good news for teams regularly close to the cap ceiling, such as the Boston Bruins. There were fears the cap wouldn’t increase much — or at all — for next season.

The Bruins currently have about $6.8 million in cap space, per General Fanager. The B’s could free up about $4 million more in cap space by putting Marc Savard on long-term injured reserve.

Now that the cap ceiling and floor are determined, general managers don’t have to worry about projections when making trades. This could open the trade market leading up to the 2015 NHL Draft, which begins Friday night.
