When tragedy strikes in a community, it’s not uncommon to see local sports teams standing with those affected. But Jerry Richardson went above and beyond.

The Carolina Panthers owner donated $10,000 to the families of each of the nine victims of Wednesday night’s shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., per ESPN.com. Richardson also donated another $10,000 to the historically black church itself.

Richardson sent the donation in a letter Friday, which was posted on Twitter by South Carolina state representative Bakari Sellers. The letter mentions each of the victims by name and says the money is meant to cover funeral costs and take any financial burden off the families.

“We don’t want to comment on the specifics of the donation, but know our hearts are one with those who grieve the loss of these individuals,” Panthers spokesperson Steven Drummond told ESPN.

The Panthers play in Charlotte, N.C., but the team also represents its southern neighbor. The club has held training camp at Wofford College in South Carolina since its founding in 1995.
