Andrew Benintendi showed Saturday why the Boston Red Sox think so highly of him.

Benintendi, who was selected No. 7 overall by the Red Sox in this week’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, launched a home run in Arkansas’ College World Series opener against Virginia.

The Razorbacks lost the game 5-3, but the Red Sox probably liked what they saw. Benintendi, who had been on Boston’s radar since high school, has shown tremendous pop throughout his sophomore season after bulking up following a so-so freshman season in which he hit just one home run.

Benintendi boasts an impressive assortment of tools. The 20-year-old’s track record isn’t that extensive, but his excellent sophomore campaign resulted in him being named college baseball’s player of the year.
