It didn’t take long for Carl Soderberg to sign on with the Colorado Avalanche.
ESPN’s Craig Custance reported Friday morning that Soderberg has reached a five-year contract with the Avalanche. The deal, according to Custance, carries an annual value of $4.75 million, which works out to $23.75 million over the five years.
The Boston Bruins traded Soderberg’s rights to Colorado on Thursday night. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the B’s acquired a sixth-round draft pick — the one they sent the Avalanche at the deadline last season in exchange for Max Talbot — so Colorado could get exclusive negotiation rights before Soderberg officially hit the market next week.
Soderberg joined the Bruins from Sweden late in the 2013 season. The big center played two full seasons with the B’s, scoring 29 goals and adding 63 assists over those two seasons. He should give the Avs some needed insurance down the middle, as there’s uncertainty as what’s going to happen with center Ryan O’Reilly’s contract situation.
