Carmelo Anthony apparently is like many New York Knicks fans: He isn’t thrilled with the team’s moves on draft night.
The Knicks were busy in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday, taking Kristaps Porzingis with the No. 4 pick in the first round. It was a bit of a surprising selection but the ultimate risk-reward. Porzingis, according to some draft experts, has one of the draft’s highest ceilings. Whether he lives up to that potential, though, is another story.
The Knicks also picked up Notre Dame’s Jerian Grant in a trade with the Hawks, sending Tim Hardaway Jr. to Atlanta.
All in all, it was a decent night for the Knicks, but Anthony reportedly didn’t see it that way. According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Anthony voiced his displeasure with the Knicks’ draft night moves in a phone call with Hardaway.
Much of Anthony’s displeasure, Isola reported, stems from a perceived lack of urgency.
“Are we supposed to wait two or three years for this guy?” Anthony asked a friend about the Porzingis pick, according to the Daily News.
Also in the Daily News article is a tidbit from ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who said on SiriusXM Radio that Anthony feels “betrayed” by Knicks president Phil Jackson.
So it appears the circus in New York isn’t ending anytime soon.
