Team USA is getting ready to open its Women’s World Cup slate, and already there are distractions.

The Americans will begin their World Cup quest Monday night against Australia, and they will do so with more controversy swirling around goalkeeper Hope Solo. The veteran keeper was arrested in June 2014, and new details from an ESPN report on the arrest don’t paint a pretty picture.

Solo was arrested and faced two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence stemming from an incident at her home in Washington state last June. The charges eventually were dropped, but according to ESPN, Solo’s behavior toward police was borderline appalling.

As police attempted to book Solo into jail, she had to be forced to the ground, according to the ESPN “Outside the Lines” report. She then hurled insults at one officer.

“You’re such a b—-,” Solo reportedly said. “You’re scared of me because you know that if the handcuffs were off, I’d kick your ass.”

Solo’s insults didn’t stop there, as she suggested two of the jailing officers were having sex and called another a “14-year-old boy,” according to ESPN, who obtained the details through police records and two sworn depositions.

Solo also was asked to remove a necklace, to which she responded by saying the necklace was worth more than the officer made in a year.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Solo was drunk at the time of the incident.

Solo didn’t meet with the media ahead of Monday night’s match with Australia.
