Coach-player unrest in Sacramento might result in DeMarcus Cousins being traded. It also might lead to George Karl losing his job.

The Kings are considering firing Karl as their head coach over his inability to get along with and desire to trade his All-Star center, a source told ESPN’s Chris Broussard on Thursday.

Broussard’s source did point out, however, that canning Karl and keeping Cousins might set a dangerous precedent.

“If you fire Karl, now you can’t control Cousins because he’ll know he’s running the place,” the source said. “Now he’ll feel like he’s telling you what to do.”

The source added that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive “brought up the possibility of getting rid of (Karl) over the last few days.”

A conflicting report quickly followed Broussard’s, as Ailene Voisin of The Sacramento Bee cited a source saying Karl’s job is safe and that new vice president Vlade Divac isn’t happy about all the hubbub.
