UPDATE (June 30, 9:15 a.m. ET): The Boston Bruins announced Monday morning they have signed defenseman Adam McQuaid to a four-year contract extension worth $2.75 million per year, confirming a move first reported Friday.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Boston Bruins reportedly have locked up defenseman Adam McQuaid for the foreseeable future.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported Friday that the Bruins and McQuaid have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $2.75 million annually. Rick Curran, McQuaid’s agent, quickly confirmed the report, according to The Boston Globe’s Amalie Benjamin.
The extension represents a significant raise for the 28-year-old blueliner, who made $1.8 million this past season.
McQuaid has been a staple of the Bruins’ D-corps since the 2010-11 Stanley Cup campaign, but various injuries have drastically limited his playing time. He has appeared in just 93 of the team’s last 184 games, and he managed a mere seven points (one goal, six assists) in 63 games last season.
News of McQuaid’s deal broke shortly after the Bruins traded fellow defenseman Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames in exchange for the 15th, 45th and 52nd picks in the 2015 NHL Draft, which begins Friday night in Florida.
